CICIL

Caroline Cockerham and Laura Tripp founded CICIL in November 2021. Their braided rugs are made with natural, renewable materials (absolutely no use of synthetic, petro-chemical based fibers including polyester). Having a sustainable supply chain is important to them and so they make their products traceable using a very local supply chain. To keep their footprint small, CICIL’s wool is sourced from farmers in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. It then travels to the Carolinas to be processed and manufactured by a 3rd generation, family owned and operated textile mill. Their products travel less than 1,000 miles, from farm to final product, and they benefit each local economy they’re made in.

Rhinne

Women-owned textile brand Rhinne makes wallpapers, fabrics and pillows from re-discovered designs sourced from the archives of 20th century mills. All of the prints for the textiles and wallpapers are drafted and printed by hand. Hannah Learner, Rhinne’s founder, says that the prints are, “meant to be playful. Rhinne honors vintage in an approachable, not-stuffy way. They’re able to mix into a collected, contemporary life; speaking to a slightly younger customer than the very-Classic, heritage brands. I style the photos with a sense of humor, which is meant to give humanity to these very-old designs.”

Sprezz

The name Sprezz comes from the Italian concept of Sprezzatura, meaning “effortless elegance.” This tabletop brand is inspired by 70s style icons including Gianni Agnelli ,Jackie Kennedy, and Valentino Garavani. Founder Anam admires “their elegance, not trying too hard but living well is something we hope to inspire.”

Verloop

Verloop is a sustainable brand that upcycles deadstock yarn to create colorful accessories, slippers and home decor. Ella Lim founded Verloop in 2012 when she was trying to find a good, sustainable use for deadstock yarn and leveraging her family’s manufacturing expertise. Ella and her family both own and run their factory. Everyone at team Wolf PR owns several Verloop pieces, including the Wolf PR company mascot and team leader, Little Fox!

Sabai

Sabai's sustainable sofa

This new direct-to-consumer sustainable sofa brand, Sabai was founded by two young women who in their own words “who aim to be the Impossible Burger of furniture!” Sabai is a woman-owned startup that creates affordable, sustainable pieces without sacrificing design or comfort. Their first introduction, the Essential Collection, includes the Essential Sofa and the Essential Sectional. Their most notable fabric is their recycled velvet made from 100% recycled water bottles. The brand has values that need to be in the design world: Sabai works with local, family run manufacturers right here in the US. They regularly reiterate on their design to make it better and better for the environment. They constantly listen to customers and actually makes changes to their product to make it better.

Graf Lantz

Holger Graf and Daniel Lantz founded home accessories and bag brand Graf Lantzin Los Angeles in 2009. Prior to founding Graf Lantz, Holger Graf earned his PhD in structural engineering from his studies in Germany, while Daniel Lantz let fate lead him to grow deep roots in the shokunin world of Japan. German precision, Japanese perspective and California soul influence their collections.

Holger and Daniel made their first pieces (and continue to make them) with a rich but largely forgotten textile, Merino wool felt, chosen because of its quality. It is soft like Cashmere and Alpaca with unequaled fiber strength. They use OEKO-TEX dyes for all their felts making sure they are non-toxic and free of harmful chemicals.

We are personally excited about them because of all the sustainable practices they’ve incorporated into their business.

Haand

Ceramics brand Haand (an archaic Norwegian word for hand) was started in 2012 by Mark Warren and Chris Pence, friends who met in high school in Jacksonville, Florida circa 1999. Chris handles the business side of Haand while Mark is responsible for the design and creative direction.

Mark and the team hand make all of their pieces by hand in a former hosiery mill in downtown Burlington, NC. About 20% of each finished piece contains reused scraps from past production and their proprietary dip-glazing application process produces zero waste. Haand has supplied dish ware to a number of notable restaurants including Death and Taxes in Raleigh, Trail Blazer Tavern in San Francisco, and the Park Hyatt in NYC. While they have made exclusive pieces for chefs, their work has always been available to the public.

Due to Covid (and thus, lack of restaurants) they pivoted their business strategy to make even more work available to the public.

Le Puzz

Le Puzz was founded by Areaware alum- Michael Hunter and photographer- Alistair Matthews. Their puzzles grew out of their love for vintage puzzles as well as Alistair’s collection of quirky items like glow in the dark 3D printed Venus De Milos, glass eggs and miniature slippers that she shows off on her popular TikTok (over 200k followers!) Alistair is also the photographer for all the Le Puzz puzzles, often capturing her collections in fun still lifes to be turned into a puzzle. All of their puzzles are hand-drawn and random cut. They use FSA-approved paper sourced from sustainable forests for all of their puzzles. Also, fun fact, Michael and Alistair share the same alma matter, SAIC, as Nora!

Glob

Sustainable lifestyle brand, Glob’s messaging and branding focused on the Gen Z’ers, though this old millennial currently owns the Shift bag in Dragon and it’s quickly become my daily go to bag! This brand is centered on sustainability. Each Glob is made with four to ten recycled plastic bottles. Their commitment to sustainability includes how they ship and pack by incorporating compostable mailers, and staying away from other types of non-recyclable poly bags.

Smilow

Wolf PR's design client, Smilow

Smilow started with Mel Smilow who designed and retailed modern furnishings from 1949 through the late 1970’s. A champion of American-made, affordable, finely crafted, modern design —his work has been recognized and coveted by collectors and well appreciated by his loyal customers for over 50 years. In 2013 his daughter, Judy Smilow, reissued 10 pieces under the name Smilow Design and sparked a renewed interest in his work. Judy continued to build up the line and pull from Mel’s extensive archive every year. Tragically just five years after resurrecting Smilow Design she passed after a battle with ALS.  Judy’s daughter, Maia, has taken the reigns of Smilow alongside her father and has successfully transitioned the company into upscale markets. Just this past year, Maia has launched Smilow’s Dots and Dashes Collection, reviving the designs of her late mother and creating a tabletop collection of glassware and plate sets. The Smilow story is one that centers not just around design, but also a moving tradition of honoring passed family.

Favor

Wolf PR's design client, Favor

Favor, a spin off Industry West, offers home and personal accessories including home decor, kitchenware, clothing, jewelry, children’s toys, and self care products. ZigZagZurich

After 25 years in the luxury textile industry, the founders of Adam Comiskey and Michele Rondelli harmonized technology and design in 2013 to start ZigZagZurich founded and based in Switzerland. Artistically designed patterns and unique materials create never seen before pieces of home textiles that include comforters, blankets, throws, linens, curtains and cushions. ZigZagZurich collaborated with the co-founders of the Memphis movement to create the CO-OP DPS line. “This new collaboration with ZigZagZurich has given us the chance to take our concepts into new areas we have never explored before, such as printing on draperies and weaving our ideas into upholstery fabrics”, says Milan-based designers George Sowden and Nathalie du Pasquier. In addition to the design, ZigZagZurich’s textiles are crafted by Italian mills to ensure sustainability and the highest-end fabrics that can be used for years in your home as many of its blankets have made it to our home.

Michele Rondelli as the creative director inspects and controls each aspect of the output. All of textiles are made in Italy, examined diligently for quality, and are finished by craftsmen hands. 4Spaces creates modern jacquards, sheers, satins and micro-suedes. Ralo

Ralo’s rug showroom is located in SoHo next to Opening Ceremony and BDDW. The Tibetan owned and operated family businesses was founded with a commitment to preserving authentic Tibetan culture and identity. Founded in 1985, as Tibet Carpet, it was recently rebranded as Ralo. Every step of Ralo’s rug making process is done by hand, using Tibetan highland wool, which is rich in protective lanolin. After the natural fibers are hand-disseminated and handspun into a fine yarn, they are hand-dyed in small batches by experienced dyers. Teams of expert weavers then hand-knot the rug on a traditional vertical loom at 60 to 120 knots per square inch. This hand-carded and hand-spun method creates wool with a high twist yarn, resulting in rugs that shed much less over time.

20×200

Our favorite “Art For Everyone” startup was founded by gallerist and writer, Jen Bekman 5 years ago. Making limited edition work from rockstar artists like Will Wegman, Lawrence Weiner and Cecily Brown – not to mention actual rock star David Bowie – available at multiple price points makes collecting and discovering art accessible for the masses without becoming mass market (read: crappy posters). When a collector wants to take the next step, 20×200 also has larger works and can grow with their collectors. Wolf PR must admit, we have three 20×200 pieces!
